A Coastal Lighthouse at Sunset Along the Inside Passage
As we cruised through British Columbia's magnificent Inside Passage near Bella Bella, we passed this picturesque coastal lighthouse standing watch over the quiet waters of the Pacific Northwest. The charming white lighthouse and nearby red-roofed keeper's house stood out beautifully against the dense evergreen forest, creating a scene that seemed almost timeless. Overhead, dramatic storm clouds parted just enough to reveal the warm orange and golden colors of the setting sun, adding a spectacular backdrop to this peaceful and remote stretch of coastline. Mount Hood Reflected in the Still Waters of Trillium Lake
One of the most memorable sights of our Oregon travels was the magnificent Mount Hood rising above the peaceful waters of Trillium Lake. The mountain's rugged, snow-dusted summit stood beautifully against a brilliant blue sky filled with dramatic clouds, while the surrounding evergreen forest framed its nearly perfect reflection in the calm lake. With the afternoon sunlight illuminating the mountain and trees, this was one of those special moments when the beauty of the Pacific Northwest seemed almost too perfect to be real. October 2026.
Sedona in Evening Light
Courthouse Butte and Cathedral Rock rise above Sedona’s red-rock landscape, catching the warm late-day light beneath a sky filled with towering clouds. The sunlight brings out the layers and textures of the sandstone while the darker valley below gives the formations even greater presence. A classic Sedona view made especially dramatic by the changing light and sky. September 2026 Sedona.
Heart Sculpted by Light
Light filtering into Upper Antelope Canyon reveals the flowing curves of a heart, intricate textures, and rich colors carved into the Navajo sandstone by centuries of rushing water and wind. Layers of illuminated rock seem to fold into one another, creating an almost abstract composition of light, shadow, and movement. Upper Antelope Canyon, Page, Arizona — September 2026.
A Tapestry of Autumn Colors at Butchart Gardens
One of the most beautiful sights during our visit to Butchart Gardens in Victoria was this magnificent Japanese maple, its branches glowing with the brilliant reds, oranges, and golds of autumn. Surrounding the tree, colorful beds of flowers created a wonderful tapestry of pinks, reds, yellows, and whites, all set against the deep green of the surrounding forest. It was a perfect example of why these gardens are such a special place to visit, especially as the seasons begin to change. October 2026.
Canyon of Light
Light pours through the narrow passageways of Upper Antelope Canyon, illuminating the sweeping curves and layered textures of the Navajo sandstone. Warm oranges and reds shift subtly across the sculpted walls, while the brighter opening above draws the eye deeper into the canyon. Upper Antelope Canyon, Page, Arizona — September 2026.
Great Night on Lake Almanor
A calm evening at Lake Almanor reflects the soft pastel hues of a glowing sunset, with gentle ripples adding just enough texture to the mirrored scene. In the distance, Mount Lassen rises with snow-dusted peaks, anchored by a quiet forested shoreline that creates depth and balance. The warm tones in the sky contrast beautifully with the cool blues of the water, capturing a fleeting moment of Sierra serenity. This image evokes a sense of stillness and quiet wonder, where nature feels both expansive and intimate at once. March 2026.
Autumn Reflections at Connell Lake – Tongass National Forest
During our e-bike adventure through Alaska's magnificent Tongass National Forest near Ketchikan, we visited beautiful Connell Lake, a peaceful setting surrounded by towering evergreens and mist-covered mountains. Brilliant golden autumn foliage lined the shoreline, while the calm waters reflected the surrounding forest and delicate lily pads floated across the surface. With low clouds drifting across the mountains and occasional sunlight illuminating the colorful trees, this tranquil lakeside setting was one of the memorable highlights of our bicycle excursion through the Alaskan wilderness. Pier 7 SF
Pier 7 stretches straight into the heart of San Francisco, perfectly aligned with the Transamerica Pyramid and framed by a corridor of glowing lanterns. This image captures one of those rare winter sunsets when the sky ignites in deep crimson and violet, turning the bay and skyline into a dramatic stage of light and reflection. The long exposure softens the water and enhances the warmth of the lamps, creating a calm, cinematic path leading directly into the city.

Light from Above

Where Light Meets the Sea
Captured along the rugged shoreline of Cambria Coast, this image preserves one of those fleeting moments when the setting sun transforms an ordinary seascape into something extraordinary. The warm golden light pouring through the clouds contrasts with the cool, swirling water and weathered coastal rocks, creating a scene that speaks to both the power and tranquility of the Pacific Ocean. The flowing walls of Upper Antelope Canyon twist and overlap in an intricate display of curves, textures, and glowing sandstone. Light entering through narrow openings above traces the sculpted edges and reveals colors ranging from deep rust to brilliant orange, creating the illusion that the solid rock is almost in motion. Golden Gate from Marshalls Beach
Captured from the rugged shoreline beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, this view reveals the iconic span rising boldly above the swirling Pacific surf. Long exposure transforms the rushing waves into smooth ribbons of motion, creating a striking contrast against the bridge’s powerful steel lines and the sunlit Marin Headlands beyond. The perspective from sea level adds a sense of scale and timeless drama to one of the world’s most photographed landmarks.

A Spectacular Tapestry of Autumn at Butchart Gardens
Looking out over the magnificent Sunken Garden at Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia, we were treated to one of the most breathtaking displays of autumn color during our visit. Brilliant red and orange Japanese maples, golden yellow trees, and vibrant flower beds in shades of pink, purple, and yellow created an extraordinary tapestry of color across the beautifully landscaped gardens. Winding pathways, carefully sculpted hedges, and graceful evergreens added depth and character to the scene, while the forested hills beyond provided a stunning natural backdrop. It was a wonderful reminder of why Butchart Gardens is considered one of the world's most beautiful gardens, especially when autumn brings its spectacular seasonal transformation. October 2026.
McClures Beach at Sunset
Tucked along the remote northern edge of Point Reyes National Seashore, McClures Beach reveals a raw and untamed stretch of California coastline. Here, the setting sun slips perfectly between rugged sea stacks, sending radiant beams across the sand while a hidden waterfall created by the ocean waves exists only moments. Long exposure transforms the moving water into a silky veil, amplifying the serene yet powerful atmosphere of this secluded cove.

Filoli Garden House
Golden evening light filters through dramatic clouds, illuminating the stately brick Garden House reflected in the still pond below. The lush greenery and symmetrical plantings frame the building in timeless elegance, creating a serene balance between nature and architecture. This photograph was taken at Filoli Gardens Oct. 2025.
Winter Light at Lassen Peaks
The last light of day brushes the snow-covered peaks near Mount Lassen, casting warm tones across a quiet alpine landscape. A partially frozen foreground and still water create a soft, painterly texture that contrasts with the rugged mountains beyond. Tall pines line the shoreline, grounding the scene and adding depth to the sweeping Sierra vista. Blue Hour Golden Gate
As dusk fades into blue hour, the Golden Gate Bridge glows softly against a painted sky of indigo, lavender, and warm sunset embers. Deer Creek Rapids
Nestled in the forest along Deer Creek, sunlight dances across moss-covered boulders and the soft, flowing water of the stream. The golden leaves and gentle cascades create a peaceful, almost timeless atmosphere amid the Sierra foothills. A quiet moment of natural harmony captured along Highway 32 — Nov. 2025.
Arches of Light
A rhythmic line of arches recedes into shadow, their warm tones softly illuminated by filtered light from the open courtyard. The repeating columns create a strong sense of depth and symmetry, guiding the eye through the quiet corridor. Overhead, ornate chandeliers add a touch of old-world elegance, completing this timeless architectural study in light and form. Apr 2026
Bay Bridge and SF from Grizzly Peak
This elevated view from Grizzly Peak captures San Francisco as day gives way to night, with the Bay Bridge tracing a glowing arc of light across the water toward the city skyline. The sky burns in deep amber and crimson hues, creating a striking contrast with the cool blues of the bay and the twinkling city lights below. Time for a Drink!
An African elephant drinks peacefully at a quiet waterhole, its reflection perfectly mirrored in the still surface below. Reflecting on El Capitan
El Capitan is a vertical rock formation in Yosemite National Park, on the north side of Yosemite Valley, near its western end. El Capitan is made of hard granite, allowing it to resist the pressures of glaciers and erosion, giving it its typical pattern! Yosemite Feb 2025.
